In a vast arctic landscape of overwhelming beauty and endless expanses, a lost traveller finally arrives at a ghost town surrounded by eternal ice and glaciers. People seem to have left this Russian settlement overnight: furniture, books and palpable traces of a former community lie under a numb, white veil of ice and death. The traveler, who seems to have lost his memory, is assailed by his imagination and the omnipresent past until he loses himself in Neverland: whispering voices tell about the utopian life in the former Soviet coal mining town called Pyramiden and the tragic plane crash that led to its abandonment in the late 1990s. Was he one of the former habitants who died during the crash? In a place that seems out of this world, a human utopia is struck down by cruel destiny and nature’s overwhelming power. The Chronicles of Polyaris is a surreal portrayal of a fading town through the experiences of a ghost traveller who finds out that he is actually facing his own disappearance in an in-between world.
