FRANCE, Algeria | 100 minutes | 2006

Kamel is deported from France after serving a prison sentence and ends up in his native village in northeastern Algeria. Despite the warm welcome of his friends and family and his involvement in their struggle against the radical young Islamic fundamentalists wanting to dictate life in the village, Kamel doesn’t feel at home. He grows close to his cousin, disowned by her husband, disapproved of by her mother and beaten by her brother for the perceived dishonour she has brought on her family. Youth Prize at the 2006 Cannes Festival.
