The big names in cinema and this year’s most talked-about films
SOUTH KOREA | 121 minutes | 2015
Filmmaker Ham Chun-su made a mistake. He arrived in Suwon a day too early for the screening and postfilm Q&A of his latest ouevre. At a loose end, he goes sightseeing and meets Yoon Hee-jung, a local artist. Together, they go for a drink and something to eat, followed by another drink, and another and another. It soon becomes clear that love is in the air. But one of them is not being completely honest about their marital status. After winning the Golden Leopard at the recent Locarno film festival (two years after the winning silver for Our Sunhi), together with a Silver Leopard for best actor Jung Jae-Young, Right Now, Wrong Then is currently on every cinephiles’ must-see list. With his new movie, the star of South Korean independant cinema (he is often compared to Woody Allen) continues his exploration of male-female relationships in a world where drunken love and the love of drunkenness go hand in hand. A plush concerto on the disappointments of love in a romantic comedy quite unlike any other.
