The wild bunch, bold cinematic rebels and adventurous films
PHILIPPINES, Germany | 73 minutes | 2014
CANADIAN PREMIEREThe always talented (and handsome!) Tadanobu Asano, the monstre sacré of Japanese cinema (also appearing in this year’s Journey to the Shore by Kiyoshi Kurosawa) plays a criminal who meets a prostitute (the fascinating Nathalia Acevedo of Post Tenebras Lux) and takes a chance on love. They must run away, if they want to live. You think you know the story, you think you know every possible twist. What if we told you that Ruined Heart… is a noir punk opera based on a love letter to the storm?Khavn De La Cruz (The Family that Eats Soil), the enfant terrible of Filipino cinema, is back in Temps Øterritory. Within him is legendary cinematographer Chistopher Doyle (the man behind the images in Wong Kar-wai’s early films, among others) and the very best that the country’s music scene has to offer. Ruined Heart... (filmed in just a few days) is a one-way freestyle trip to Manila’s underworld. There is no dialogue here. Conversations are seen but barely heard because of the chaotic environment. And yet there are poetry, music and noise. Also blood, sex and lots of love. Pure punk. – Julien Fonfrède PRESENTED EN COLLABORATION WITH FILM POP
