An exploration of experimental and multidisciplinary forms of cinema
GERMANY | 300 minutes | 2015
In this stunning installation, we observe two panoramas of iconic Niagara Falls: one filmed on location in March 2015; the other filmed in a 3D maquette built by the artist in her Berlin studio before even visiting the falls. The scene on the left thus shows a flood of preconceived ideas based on the plethora of images, films, texts, interviews and digital replicas of the famous site, while on the right, playing at the same speed, is a 360° panorama of the real landscape. Side by side, the two screens address the notions of anticipation and imagination. The soundtrack, featuring passages from Proust’s À la recherche du temps perdu, highlights the divergence between fantasy and reality, the inevitable imperfection of space and time.Isabell Spengler: Conference at IRTGJoined by IRTG Diversity doctoral candidates, the artist will expand on her project’s conceptual underpinnings, in a conference held at the Université de Montréal at noon on October 14th. Spengler’s work strikes parallels with the cross-cultural hermeneutic approach deployed in this transatlantic interuniversity collaboration between Canada and Germany. In collaboration with IRTGWith the support of Trinity Square Video
